Wetland Policy Essays - Wetland Conservation In The United States

Wetland Policy Presentation The issue of wetland protection and approach has for quite some time been an issue of contention among intrigue gatherings and industry. While watching the quantity of imperiled or compromised species that possess wetlands it is evident that there is a squeezing need to save them, particularly when the main source of species misfortune is natural surroundings pulverization (Nowlan and Jeffries, 1996). There is right now set up an arrangement of strategies and laws which finish to make a generally compelling methods for authorization, in any case, through the absence of a solitary Act which relates to wetlands there keeps on being insufficiencies inside the framework. Despite the fact that the government has discharged the Federal Policy on Wetland Conservation it isn't allowable in court and thusly just stands as proposals by which the administration might want people in general to withstand. The endlessly various kinds of wetlands situated all through B.C. make numerous troubles in the production of a solitary approach, nonetheless, if there was an expansive based Act which was focused on the present government strategy of ?no total deficit of wetlands? it would dispense with the requirement for covering laws at the three degrees of government. What Designates an Area as a Wetland A wetland can be portrayed from multiple points of view, the majority of which give a lot of unclearness in the qualification between the various orders as these regions regularly fit into more than one gathering inside a little space. There are fundamental attributes which all wetlands share, in that they are any land which is shrouded in under six meters of water at low tide (if tidal) for all or part of the year (Zoltai, 1988), this depiction incorporates freshwater wetlands, for example, shallow lakes, bogs, peat lowlands, bogs and fens, just as saltwater wetlands, for example, salt marshes, saltwater swamps, eelgrass beds, estuaries and deltas (Nowlan and Jeffries, 1996). With such an expansive scope of prolific grounds remembered for this depiction it is nothing unexpected that they keep up such a significant level of biodiversity. This portrayal is anyway the most essential conceivable, in that it just takes into account a general ID of wetlands, as opposed to characterizing them by type or by the frameworks to which they are a piece of. Nowlan and Jeffries (1996) bunch wetlands into five classes as per their parent frameworks: Marine, non-estuary saltwater wetlands; Estuarine, wetlands around the mouth of a stream; Lacustrine, wetlands associated with lakes; Riverine, wetlands associated with waterways; Palustrine, mucky wetlands. This strategy if characterization is best when seeing wetlands from an approach point of view as it takes into account them to be named unmistakably as could reasonably be expected. Zoltai, in Wetlands of Canada (1988) utilizes more than sixty unmistakable portrayals for the various sorts of wetlands in Canada, the issue with this being the characteristics of wetlands may change from season to season and inside little geographic regions. There is an agreement that the waterfront wet lands of the Pacific are of the best natural importance in the field of biodiversity; as they never freeze and are in this way ready to give all year environment to fish and untamed life (Nowlan and Jeffries, 1996). Hugeness of Wetlands Wetlands have a human-centric worth which has for quite some time been investigated in the improvement of society, in that they have generally been however of as infertile badlands which have no an incentive to people and in this manner have been utilized as dumping grounds (Schiller and Flanagan, 1997). This ?pioneer mindset? has lead to the worldview that wetlands are just hindering urban turn of events and that they are without a doubt pointless in light of the fact that they have no prompt or obvious money esteem. Reality be that as it may, is an incredible opposite. Clean water, which is fundamental to all life, when removed for utilization by urban areas and towns, can be credited to wetlands (Schiller and Flanagan, 1997). Through common breakdown and maintenance of poisons in effluents, wetlands can channel strong squanders just as mechanical squanders containing overwhelming metals; guaranteeing that they don't hurt human populaces or different environments. In low-lying territories that are inclined to flooding wetlands assume a urgent job in guaranteeing that developments are not demolished, by going about as a wipe, wetlands can retain a lot of water and gradually discharge it

What Is A Student Athlete - 1101 Words

What is a student athlete? Well, if you break down the two words, according to Dictionary.com (n.d), a student by definition is â€Å"a person formally engaged in learning, especially one enrolled in a school or college† (1). Also, according to Dictionary.com (n.d), an athlete is â€Å"a person trained or gifted in exercises or contests involving physicalagility, stamina, or strength; a participant in a sport, exercise, or gamerequiring physical skill† (1). Therefore a student athlete is a person engaged in learning and enrolled into school or college who is active in a sport. If one is just a student alone then they have a lot of responsibilities and hard work to put forward towards their career. If they pile a sport or even more than one sport†¦show more content†¦Games are away as well. Student athletes spend hours on a bus traveling to an away game. This is very time consuming. Student athletes get home late from games and are usually ready for bed to have enough sleep to be able to get up for school or class the next day. These two examples clearly show that athletics take up a lot of time which could be used studying or doing homework. If they are not studying or turning in their homework, their grades begin to slip for the reason that they are either one, not prepared for their upcoming test or two, they are just getting zeros on assignments because they did not have the time to do them. Also, they are exhausted from practices, games and training so they are not fully focused on their school work due to exhaustion. Along with the time consumption of sports, athletics also bring out the character in people. In some situations, sports bring out the bad character in athletes. Most sports require aggressiveness and a headstrong attitude to succeed and win. The player takes the aggressiveness and attitude from the court or the field into their everyday lives. If an athlete does not have aggression and easily gives up the ball to the oth er team then they are not succeeding. Sports also do teach good character in some situations as well, for instance while watching a high school football game if there is an injured player on the field then both teams

The American Revolution The United States - 1377 Words

Many Americas don’t know how this country began or how it became this amazing and free country it is today. The American Revolution was the beginning for the United States. It was a time when the Americans separated themselves from the British and established their own rules and regulations, but it wasn’t easy. In fact it was a very long process that lasted for twenty years. There were twenty five battles fought in this time period, and many innocent citizens died. There were both long and immediate causes of the Revolution, but the most important being that American colonists were not yet seeking independence from the British. The American Revolution began on April 19, 1775 at the Battle of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. The†¦show more content†¦The minute men faced the British, and let them take the first shot. After several men were down, the battle moved to Concord where they were surrounded by the American militia. By the end of the day, many troo ps from both sides were dead. This was an immediate cause that started the American Revolution. In May, the second Continental Congress was formed, where twelve out of the thirteen colonies sent fifty-six delegates. The major accomplishment of the meeting was a ban on British goods from all the colonists. The Continental Congress selected George Washington to take over as commander-in-chief in June of 1775. He forced the British out of Boston, and lost New York City. He also led Revolutionary forces to capture the two main British combat armies at Saratoga and Yorktown after crossing the Delaware River. June 17, 1775, The Battle of Bunker Hill took place during the siege of Boston. This battle was also known as the Battle of Breed’s Hill. The Continental Congress adopted the Olive Branch petition in July 1775 in order to avoid a full force war with Great Britain. It insisted American loyalty to Britain and suggested to stop further conflict, but the king of Britain rejected the petition. December 22, 1775, the Continental Congress formed a Continental Navy under commander in chief Esek Hopkins. The first ships to flee were the Alfred, Columbus, Andrew Doria and Cabot. The main cause of this huge riot between American colonists and the British was that they

Personal Branding Imprtance And Criteria †Free Samples for Students

Question: Discuss about the Personal Branding- Imprtance And Criteria. Answer: Introduction Personal branding was introduced some years back with a set of articles by tom peters. He wrote that we are all the CEOS OF OUR OWN COMPANY and that is our own selves. It is very important to keep us updated and in a fine manner to create a good profile of ourselves on the minds go public. Its in our hands to show the world, the best side of ours. We are our own brands and it is very important for a brand to be well kept for increasing its value in all the terms. Future Business/ Job Project The future job which I want to pursue is becoming head chef in a 7-star rated hotel. I have been very much passionate with my work and have always got good results for the new experiments I have ever done in my life since the time I made cooking a passion from a part time hobby (Gratton, 2010). This job is bit off track from various other jobs which people think of pursuing in their life. But from my thinking, this best I can do for earning a good living as in this area, I can show my interest and work as per my taste. Working long hours would not become a burden for me as I have a keen interest in delivering the best out of me and earning respect and praises from the people whom I serve and make a stand at my workplace. I already have an experience of 10years in the same field in which I have always had a good repo, wherever I served (Gratton, 2010). Now this dream job of getting the position of a head chef in THE TAJ hotel will be my aim. I would try firstly brand my own self in a manner where I can attract people through my own name and fame. What Is Personal Branding And Why Is It Important Firstly, before self analysis, we must discuss what is personal branding and why is it necessary for a person to brand themselves and creature their own image profile. Personal branding is no less than branding a product. It involves polishing yourself with the best you have done and what you aim to do in the future (Joziasse, Selders and Woudhuysen, 2010). Personal branding is a process of showing up your own self to the world the best way one can. While we operate social media sites like, LinkedIn or Facebook or twitter, it is thought that a person creates a space of his thoughts ideas and achievements on the social platform for sharing it to the world. With all the special sites linked with each other, lets the recruiters visit your personal social media profiles and assess you in a different possible way, where, one can check the lifestyle a person lives in, what other hobbies one is indulged in or seeking any other qualities of that person (Gratton, 2010). Companies nowadays do not just focus on the practice of old school methods of recruiting a person for A class jobs but also prefer to look at your social world and social profiles where they can a report of your past instances, your personality and understand in a much better way. Self Analysis As told earlier, I have been a student of hotel management institution. I graduated with a satisfactory score of 89% in my course and have always had good reports in my whole college life. Cooking and kitchenware has been my passion since the time I was in my college. Expect from the score, I have been very good in preparing new international dishes in a fine manner and managing the whole lot of chefs properly. I have worked in 3 hotels in my 10 years experience which were rated as 5 stars. I have my social profiles on almost all the platforms- Face book, twitter, instagram and LinkedIn but i do not keep them well updated. A person, if not updated socially, might face some issues reaching his or her dream job as of now; the companies do look at your personal profile data for taking you inside the company. It has been a new trend in the industry to take aloof on the social profile of a person (Joziasse, Selders and Woudhuysen, 2010). A short SWOT analysis of self can be conducted to review your position in the industry- Strengths- the biggest strength of my life is that, I have an experience of 10 years which matters a lot in the hotel industry. Uri have worked for good brands and have made my own position valuable. This can help me be better than many others looking for the same position as mine. Weaknesses- although I have my profile created in many of the recruitment providing websites but my social profile not well updated and there are no experiences added to my Facebook profile (Kuehn, 2016). All my achievements are on paper and in a file but they are continuously updated in the social websites of LinkedIn and Facebook. Opportunities- there are many opportunities for a person in hotel industry. Infect, nowadays, hotel industry is no less than a show business and a person with good profile and experience is preferred for jobs in good and priced hotels. The pay of hotel chefs and managers is way too good as hotel industry is gaining importance day by day (Joziasse, Selders and Woudhuysen, 2010). There is a good chance of companies looking for new or more people in their hotels to stabilize more and more. Threats- I might have a very good profile on papers but I am not well updated on the social media profile and this can act as threat for me. It can be a negative factor in this filed (Kuehn, 2016). Many new people are coming up with skills in the hotel industry amend with their good social profiles and a better personal brand, can attract companies towards good positions and I might suffer some negative effe cts of being un-updated. Hence, a person must assess his or her SWOT analysis for knowing the reality of his value in todays world. What Personal Brand You Want To Create In Order To Attract The Future Recruiters? Social Networking Profile I would like to update myself with all the social platforms and try to add all my achievements and experiences to my social profiles too. Starting with Facebook, a proper identity must be created with full description of your living, add trees and name. If a person fails to maintain one social profile of his own, then it might have confused the recruiters to know your real ideas and profile. Social profiles must not be confusion. It is all in the hands of a person to show the best of his or her life in the special profile (Kuehn, 2016). Creating personal brand needs- Clear description of name, age and location All the updates of the school level education Updates of graduation level education with clear knowledge of stream Good updates of status and pictures which improves the personal brand Updates of interest and hobbies Pictures of the food and experiences one has had in the work life All the updates of praises and rewards one has received in his life Experiences along with the company and time period and designation (Waldman., 2013) Conclusion In this research in the students needs if personal branding, we realized that personal branding and creating a social profile is very much necessary for a person in todays world. What a person shows to the world is always in his hands so he must use it to show the best of himself (Zarkada, 2010). We must try to create a profile in such a way that Google search displays your name on the top of the list when searched with name and location. Always keep self updated with SWOT analysis which tells about the current strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to person. This helps a person get better and enhance his or her qualities and defects for improving the analysis for the next time. Always try to go with new ideas and updates in the lifestyle as they help you brand yourself as per the new generation and compete with the new people and world. For making value in the world, person first needs to create of himself that is brand himself with the best of what he has. References Gratton, S. (2012). Follow Me! Ohms law Essay Example

Ohms law Paper In this investigation I want to find out how the length of and the width of the wire affects the resistance. Resistance: An explanation of what resistance would be that resistance is the opposition of a conductor to a flow of current. It is when traveling electrons in a wire collide with the atoms of a wire. The collisions between the electrons and the atoms cause the electrons to move slower, which causes resistance. So, resistance would be how hard it is to move electrons through a wire. Resistance is measured in Ohms ( ) Resistance = resistivity p (ohm metres) x length l. Cross-sectional area A (square meters) Current flows through a wire by a flow of electric charges. Wire is made up of a lattice of positive ions, surrounded by free electrons. Ions can only vibrate about in their fixed positions but electrons are free to move randomly from one ion to another. When the battery is attached to the wire, the free electrons are repelled by the negative and attracted to the positive. They still have some random movement but they move slowly in the same direction through the wire with a steady drift. Ohms Law: In 1827, a German physicist discovered relationship that the amount of steady current through a large number of materials is directly proportional to the potential difference, or voltage, across the materials. Thus, if the voltage V (in units of volts) between two ends of a wire made from one of these materials is tripled, the current I (amperes) also triples; and the quotient V/I remains constant. The quotient V/I for a given piece of material is called its resistance, R, measured in units named ohms. The resistance of materials for which Ohms law is valid does not change over enormous ranges of voltage and current. That the resistance, or the ratio of voltage to current, for all or part of an electric circuit at a fixed temperature is generally constant had been established by 1827 as a result of the investigations of the German physicist George Simon Ohm. Alternate statements of Ohms law are that the current I in a conductor equals the potential difference V across the conductor divided by the resistance of the conductor, or simply I = V/R, and that the potential difference across a conductor equals the product of the current in the conductor and its resistance, V = IR. In a circuit in which the potential difference, or voltage, is constant, the current may be decreased by adding more resistance or increased by removing some resistance. Ohms law may also be expressed in terms of the electromotive force, or voltage, E, of the source of electric energy, such as a battery. For example, I = E/R. With modifications, Ohms law also applies to alternating-current circuits, in which the relation between the voltage and the current is more complicated than for direct currents. Precisely because the current is varying, besides resistance, other forms of opposition to the current arise, called reactance. The combination of resistance and reactance is called impedance, Z. When the impedance, equivalent to the ratio of voltage to current, in an alternating current circuit is constant, a common occurrence, and Ohms law is applicable. For example, V/I = Z. With further modifications Ohms law has been extended to the constant ratio of the magneto motive force to the magnetic flux in a magnetic circuit. Resistance values in electronic circuits vary from a few ohms, W, to values in kilohms, kW, (thousands of ohms) and megohms, MW, (millions of ohms). Electronic components designed to have particular resistance values are called resistors. Hypothesis: Resistance is caused by electron bumping into irons. If the length of the wire is doubled, the electrons bump into twice as many irons so there will be twice as much as resistance (resistance as a length. ). If the cross sectional area of the wire doubles, there will be twice a many irons and twice as many electrons bumping into them, but also twice as many electrons getting through twice as many gaps. If there are twice as any electrons getting through, as there is twice the current, the resistance must have halved. This means that resistance a 1 (cross-sectional are of the wire). I am assuming that the temperatures are kept constant and that the material is kept constant. We can include this in our equations by adding a constant R=PL/A Where P=Constant R=Resistance L=Length and A=Cross-sectional area of the wire. The equation R=PL/A is found like this: We have 2 equations RAL and RAL/A If we combine them we have RA1 i L/A which becomes Ra L/A If we add a constant P then we have our equation R=PL/A Preliminary Work I will use nichrome wire, because it has more resistance compared to nickel and copper. I have chosen to test the length, as it is simple to compare the average resistance when the length has changed. I tested nichrome, nickel and copper wire and found out that nichrome is the best to use. The resistance of a wire depends on certain factors. Some of these variables are listed below:   Length of wire   Diameter of wire Temperature at which wire is at   The material of which wire is made out of   The potential difference across circuit   Cross sectional area Factors: The factors I believe that will affect what happens in the investigation are: 1) Diameter/Cross sectional area: A good example to illustrate this where two cars are travelling down a dual lane road side by side. As soon as the road changes to become a single lane road, it is impossible for the cars to travel side by side and one must stop and resume behind the other car. This same can be said for electrons in a wire, the larger the diameter/cross section, the more electrons are able to travel trough the wire at the same time. 2) Temperature: When the temperature of a metal increases the resistance of that metal increases. This is because when the temperature increases the atoms of the metal vibrate more vigorously because of the increase in energy. This means that the electrons have more difficulty getting through the wire as they collide with the atoms which are in their pathway. This increases the amount of collisions therefore there is more resistance. However it is hard to keep the temperature exactly the same as the room temperature might change from day to day. It is essential to use a low voltage because it means a low current that will not heat up the wires. If a high voltage is used the energy would be in form of heat which would make the experiment unfair. The investigation will be done at room temperature. The temperature cannot be investigated because it is hard to control the range of temperature needed without the correct apparatus. 3) Length of wire: The larger the length of the wire, the larger the resistance. This is because there are more atoms from the metal so there is more chance that the electrons would collide with one of the atoms therefore there is more resistance. The length of wire will be variable throughout the investigation. Electrons have a longer distance to travel when the wire is longer, so there are more collisions . The length of the wire will make a difference to the resistance. This is because when you have a long wire, the electrons have to squeeze together for longer to be able to pass through the wire than they do in order to be able to pass through a short wire. 4) Type of material: Different materials have different resistances because the materials atomic structures are different so some metals have low resistances and some have high resistances. Therefore it is important to keep the material the same throughout the experiment unless a different material is used to check if the conclusion or theory works for all materials.

Cass Gilbert - Architect of Skyscrapers and Capitols

Cass Gilbert - Architect of Skyscrapers and Capitols American architect Cass Gilbert (born November 24, 1859 in Zanesville, Ohio) is nationally known for his grand neoclassical design of the US Supreme Court building in Washington, DC. Yet it was Lower Manhattan in New York City on 9/11/01 that drew attention to his iconic Woolworth Building, a 1913 skyscraper that survived the nearby terrorist attacks. These two buildings alone- the US Supreme Court and the Woolworth Building- make Cass Gilbert an important part of American architectural history. Although Cass Gilberts name is rarely mentioned today, he exercised enormous influence on the development of architecture in the United States. Completing his formal education in 1879 at Bostons Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Gilbert was trained to know historic and traditional architectural forms. He apprenticed under Stanford White and the high-profile firm of McKim, Mead and White, yet Gilberts own architecture is his legacy. His genius was in merging modern interiors and technologies of the day with historic exterior architectural styles. His Gothic Revival Woolworth Building was the worlds tallest building in 1913, and it had an indoor swimming pool. Combining modern technologies with historic ideas, Gilbert designed many public buildings, including the state capitols of Minnesota, West Virginia, and Arkansas, spreading neoclassic design into the heartland of America. He was a consulting architect for the iconic George Washington Bridge, still used by New Jersey commuters to cross the Hudson River into New York City. Cass Gilberts success as a designer was due largely to his skill as a businessman and his ability to negotiate and compromise. Inventing the Skyline: The Architecture of Cass Gilbert, edited by Margaret Heilbrun, captures the spirit of a man who spent a lifetime trying to balance these qualities. Essays by four scholars analyze Gilberts major projects, his sketches and watercolors and his contributions as a city planner. Along the way, readers are given an inside look at Gilberts creative processes- and his conflicts and compromises. For example: Originally, Gilbert planned to place womens toilets only on every third floor of the Broadway Chambers Building.Discord erupted when Gilbert refused to use local stone for the Minnesota State Capitol.Gilberts vision for the George Washington Bridge included fountains, sculptures, and granite towers.Gilbert believed that colored terra-cotta was essential in the design of modern skyscrapers.   Gilbert died May 17, 1934 in Brockenhurst, England, yet his architecture continues to be part of the American skyline. The most comprehensive records of Cass Gilberts work are housed at the New-York Historical Society. Some 63,000 drawings, sketches, blueprints and watercolor renderings plus hundreds of letters, specifications, ledgers and personal files document the firms New York practice. In linear footage, the Societys Gilbert collection is about as high as his celebrated Woolworth Building. Quotes by Cass Gilbert In conducting business (especially for the office) never forget that the greatest danger arises from cocksure pride.Beware of over-confidence; especially in matters of structure. It is only the young and callow and ignorant that admire rashness. Think before you speak. Know your subject. Cass Gilbert in History Although today a new appreciation for architecture based on historic themes has reawakened interest in the work of Cass Gilbert, this was not always the case. By the 1950s, Gilberts name had slipped into obscurity. Modernism, which idealized sleek, unadorned forms without ornamentation, became fashionable and Gilberts buildings were often dismissed or even ridiculed. British architect and critic Dennis Sharp (1933-2010) had this to say: The fairly pedestrian designs created by Gilberts firm did not prevent it from gaining popularity. The majority of buildings the firm designed were gothicized skyscrapers, the most famous of which was the Woolworth Building. Works designed by the firm during the early 1930s were competent Classical buildings which lack the originality of such contemporary Modernists as Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.~ Dennis Sharp. Self-Developmental Plan Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Self-Developmental Plan - Assignment Example From there this paper details a gaps assessment, chiefly in the form of an assessment of my current strengths and weaknesses relative to where I want to be and where I am at the moment, as well as an action plan for the achievement of my goals, detailing short, medium and long-term aspects of that plan (Thomas and Inkson, 2009). Being a person from China, the plan of course takes into account my Chinese cultural vantage point, and this is the point of departure for the whole exercise. On the other hand, my goal is to work and live in Canada, and therefore this exercise holds immense importance and relevance for me. This being the case, the plan revolves around performing a self-assessment of where I am in terms of my competence in western, Canadian, and North American culture, what my strengths and weaknesses are, where I need to improve, and how I can get to where I need to be in order to be successful in my planned future life in Canada, as a Chinese and Eastern person aspiring for a life in a place that in many cultural respects is the opposite of my cultural upbringing and sensibilities, being situated in North America and being culturally and socially western (Thomas and Inkson, 2009; Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, 2009; Vancouver Island University, 2014; Li, 2000; Columbia Encyclopedi a, 2014). I take to heart the feedback from the document called Hofstede Culture Compass Result, which I got from the Hofstede Centre, and which I ground on my own subjective observations and experiences as a Chinese person in my own society, together with my readings on Canadian culture and the dynamics of the interactions between Chinese and Canadian culture. First, it is noteworthy that even from where I am, there are significant variations between my scores and the average scores in China on the different Hofstede dimensions. Whereas, for instance, the average Hofstede Individualism score for China

TECHNOLOGY IN THE NEWS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

TECHNOLOGY IN THE NEWS - Essay Example There are rumors that some executives of HP may have tried to halt the appointment of the CEO by hiding Autonomy’s negative information. The reports are suggestive of lack of transparency at HP, if things are not more serious. The impact of the latest revelations on HP cannot be predicted with utmost surety at this time, but if HP is found guilty in the future, thus would lead to a big black eye with respect to the public relations. HP might have to face litigation accordingly. Contrary to the perception that there is no more place of new mobile phones in the world, a range of next-generation models will be introduced at the Mobile World Congress (MWS) 2014 (Cutlack). Samsung and Sony have made exceptions by demonstrating their new mobile models at separate events in 2013. This year’s MWC will display new tech such as bendable screens. Companies like Samsung have advertised their new models that will be displayed in MWS

Comparing Two Artists Essay Example for Free

Comparing Two Artists Essay Magritte uses minimal dull colours though he changes tones within his colours to create shadowy effects and also creates a layered element contributing to line within his artwork; the horizontal layers between the background make the vertical lines of the owls stand out in the foreground of his artwork. Magritte is known to not leave hidden messages within his artwork, cleverly painting the reality he see’s. For this particular symbolic painting Magritte uses oil on canvas, the sharp detail he uses in his brush strokes make the image look real but not real at the same time. His witty version of reality he paints fall into surrealism, although his artwork include symbolic owls his painting is clear, interesting and well defined, he wanted his viewers to look at his painting and appreciate what is right there, not leaving them wondering why or what it means, because everything he wished to portray is right there in the artwork. Owls symbolize wisdom. In many cultures they are believed to be able to see all things that are usually hidden quite possibly fears. Magritte uses these owls to represent as an ancient human fear or the owls are the companions of our ancient fears, the birds growing from the soil may represent the ‘roots’ to our fears. In comparison to Magritte, Peter Booth’s artwork ‘Untitled 1976’ displays an image of apocalyptic shock, at the same time Booth includes his painful personal experiences and his view of humanity. This is evident when he uses harsh and cold colours to represent the apocalyptic vibe he sends through his artwork, the tones are very similar within each colour although when looking at the whole painting the contrast between the different colours is quite prominent leaving a cold feeling for his viewers to feel. Line has most strongly been used to create the strong horizon line and hence fore-middle- and background. The thin repeated lines of the fire and sky create pattern and simulated texture. The texture of the paint Booth uses to illustrate the industrial side of his landscape maybe suggesting he had a rough childhood. The shape of the figures in Booth’s artwork are all out of proportion, implying they could be apart of his hazy memory or hallucination, and this is how he remembers them. Booth uses gouache on paper for this particular artwork his intense brush strokes create perspective on his painting, guiding his viewers to understand and follow where he directs them. His work is characterised by an intense emotional power of often dark narratives, and esoteric symbolism, this artwork also reflecting on his nightmarish dreams which categorise him in surrealism, as he works closely with the element of surprise or shock difference. The colours he uses are symbolic to aspects of his childhood growing up in the industrial surroundings.

The Most Important Event in My Life Essay -- essays research papers

The Most Important Event in my Life   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The most important event in my life, didn’t even happen to myself, but happened to my older sister, Becky. The reason I am writing about her is because the things that have happened to her and the things she has done in the past have affected me tremendously as well as my family. Her life used to be filled with nothing else but drugs, stealing, and lying. My family has never been the same since then.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It all started out when my very shy, self-conscious sister didn’t really fit in well. She was 16, chubby and had very few friends. One day Becky’s best friend Debbie introduced her to 19 year old guy name John. Becky and John hit it off very well and started dating by the next week. They spent all their time together; he came to our family events but was very quiet and didn’t really talk to anyone besides my sister. Over the next couple of months, my family and I saw a change in Becky. She was losing lots of weight and we questioned her and she just claimed she was on a diet, so we thought nothing else of it. We also noticed another change in Becky, she not only lost about 30 pounds in a couple of months, but every time we talked to her she had this look on her face that she was about to fall asleep, or at least pass out. She then proceeded to claim that she was tired, so again there was nothing we could do.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As a couple of years went by she was gaining ...

Human Resources Performance Essay

1. What factors should Perkins and Balkin consider when setting the wage for the purchasing agent position? What resources are available for them to consult when establishing this wage? †¨ Katie Perkins opened her own sports store. The company grew quickly and she hired 16 employees to manage different areas of the store. After a while Perkins decide to open a new position for a purchasing agent. When setting the wage for the purchasing agent position Perkins and Balkin must consider their internal and external factors. Internal factors include compensation strategy of the organization, worth of the job, employee’s relative worth and employer’s ability to pay. A company’s compensation strategy is how they plan to compensate their employees in general terms. The worth of a job is just what it says, what that position is worth to the company in the revenue or cost savings it generates. External factors include conditions of the labor market, area pay rates, co st of living, collective bargaining and legal requirements. The labor market reflects how much supply and demand there is within the industry for a particular position. 2. Suggest advantages and disadvantages of a pay-for-performance policy for Perfor- mance Sports. †¨ The advantages of a pay for performance policy is typically that productivity is increased while overall employee compensation costs are decreased because it doesn’t pay poor performers well. The disadvantages are measuring employee performance isn’t always easy. There will always occur some discrepancies in the performance level measured by the employer and actual performance level obtained by the employee which leads to dissatisfaction and decrease in motivation of the employee. 3. Suggest a new payment plan for the customer service representatives.

Renewable Energy And The Global Warming - 1542 Words

The Earth is dying at an extreme rate and will continue to do so unless we switch to renewable energy, to help fight and prevent the effects of using fossil fuels. Many people will say that we need to switch to renewable energy and that our planet is suffering from global warming, while others will say that global climate change is a natural occurring event that does not to be worried about. Many people in the modern generation have grown up with a big emphasis on how we need to change our daily habits in order to protect the world and preserve the life on it. The reason as to why many people will say this, is because for about the last fifty years’ scientist have been saying that we need to cut back on our fossil fuels and use more†¦show more content†¦The hope is that when that time comes, the people of that era are advanced enough to be able to provide for themselves without the need of the same resources that we need everyday. An important question to ask ourselve s, is what if the people don’t have the technology and need the resources we use everyday, but they won t have as much or any if we continue to destroy our planet. The fact that we know our fossil fuels are limited and yet we still use them is crazy, in greenhouse living one article states that â€Å"Whether you believe that there are hundreds of years or just a few decades left of this resource, the fact remains that it is a finite resource. At some point, fossil fuels are going to either be gone or they are going to become too expensive to realistically use.† (Epstein ) This quote summarizes the overall issue with the use of fossil fuels and that is that they will run out. The question for that is, are we ready for when that day comes and we have to make the change from fossil fuels to renewable energy. As of right now, we have fossil fuels and don’t have to switch to renewable energy, but when the day comes, that the oil drilling stops producing and the coal minds are empty is the day we will have to sit back and say are we ready for this. The education system is one that can help lead the way in many different ways and one of them is setting an example of how things are in the modern way.
